Think of this like skateboarding. Your going one way and then you do a 180, now your going the other way. The way of the Lord!
Romans 10:9
"...that if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus as Lord', and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;"

Saying the sinner's prayer is simply a way of saying to God that you need Jesus Christ as your Savior. There are no "magical" words. It is only faith in Jesus' death and resurrection that can save us. If you understand that you are a sinner and in need of salvation through Jesus Christ, pray the sinner's prayer to God.
If you prayed the sinner's prayer and truly believe and understand why you did, we'd like to know.
"Dear God, Thank you for loving me. I believe that Jesus died for me on the Cross. I am sorry for my sins. I ask you to give me a new life and make me a part of God's family. Please help me to love and obey you. In Jesus' name. Amen."
